Carlin (she/her) is a neurodivergent transgender barber-stylist specializing in effortless, easy-to-style, and affirming haircuts for all genders. She takes a collaborative approach to haircutting, with comprehensive consultations and an emphasis on hair education. Together, Carlin and each client create hairstyles that are not only flattering but also functional and sustainable.
A third-generation hair professional, Carlin has been immersed in the hair industry her entire life. When she started her career, she sought to bridge the gap between salons and barbershops — a divide that persists even in hair education. In 2020, Carlin apprenticed as a barber-stylist at a gender-inclusive barber-salon in Brooklyn, where she honed her skills in cutting masc, femme, and androgynous styles.
Carlin is committed to her professional growth and has taken continuing education courses with renowned stylists, including Sam Villa, Andy Judd, Jacob Khan, and Brayden Pelletier, to expand her skills and stay at the forefront of the industry. Carlin is passionate about revolutionizing stylist and barber training to ensure that inclusivity of gender, race, and ability is standard practice. She is currently developing a curriculum to teach stylists how to conduct affirming consultations and create more inclusive haircuts.
Outside of hairstyling, Carlin is interested in community organizing, playing bass guitar and video games, managing her band, attending punk shows, reading fantasy and queer fiction, and getting tattooed.
